Phoenix might not be the first city you think of when you think of green cities, but this week Phoenix made an important step towards greening — light rail came to downtown Phoenix. Considering that some have called Phoenix “Sprawl City USA” this is a wonderful development. There’s also a “Sprawl has no future in Phoenix” Meetup
you can sign up for and meet others in Phoenix interested in
sustainability. If you have never been to a Meetup, I highly recommend
it. It’s a great way to meet other local people with similar interests.
The Downtown Voices Coalition is another group working for healthy growth and development in Phoenix. For more local resources check out Local First Arizona. Their website lists local business and has a great Green and Eco-Friendly section.

If you are interested in sustainable living in Phoenix there are resources out there for you. Check out Ten Eyck Landscape Architects, who are working to make the area more sustainable through their design work. If you just need a little coaching on how to make your garden grow sustainably you should head on over to Doreen’s site. Doreen is a garden coach and would love to help you green your yard. I bet she has lots of tips for how to save time, money, and help the environment. Life’s a Garden is another great company providing gardening and landscaping services in Phoenix. They specialize edible landscapes and permaculture. If you want to learn more about permaculture, the Phoenix Permaculture Guild offers events and classes. And finally, if you want to buy locally grown, tasty produce, you can check out Phoenix’s farmers markets: Saturday at Roadrunner Park and Sunday at Ahwatukee.
